Getting ready for Christmas!

Here at home, we start preparing the house for the holiday season in late October, early November - just like a good wine, which one must sip slowly, we also like to lengthen the good things this season has to offer.

Yet, not all Christmas are equal. Some are remembered as having been extraordinary, others " more or less", there are still others, which are classified in the category of : "i'ts to be forgotten! " - Like everything in life, depends very much on the circumstances and challenges of the moment.

Nevertheless, this one, is a very special Christmas for me and my family because we have a great reason to feel all that energy and Christmas' spirit: our little prince, of course! If there were any doubts about this, they were instantly vanished: Christmas really gets a different taste when you have a child! It is therefore with much more joy that I work day and night, to fill up our house with new colors and energies.

At the moment, I'm working on some pillowcases for our couch - after assembling the Christmas tree, the lights, the candles and other decorations, it became very clear to me that the transformation wouldn't be complete until the central piece in the room was sprinkled with red, white and green.

I will certainly share the final result with you. But until then, I wish you have fun decorating your home too!

Today, I will share with you a card that I made about a month ago for the christening of a little princess.

Frequently, the easiest option is to go to the nearest stationery shop, and buy a card for the occasion.
Well, this time I decided to make the card myself; also because my little man was quiet enough to let me architect and implement the project, which doesn't always happen...

I had no plan, whatsoever, of what I wanted to achieve when I first started, I was cutting here, pasting there, until the result was inspiring me alone.

I hope the parents liked it. I enjoyed myself a lot, making it, and Salvador did too, he was so fun playing with the papers that I would deliberately letting fall to the ground.

Offering a personalized card is the best of feelings, do you know that?

Enfim, (quase) tudo aquilo que me faz feliz!

For the past week, I have been very dedicated to my tiny ateliê. I have been wishing to have my own creative space for a long time niw, but with other priorities always happening, it quickly became a secondary necessity.

If I know myself well, this space, will be in a constant mutation, but for now, I'm fairly happy with it. I have my shelves, my fabrics, my threads, my needles, sewing machine, scissors, glues, staplers, tapes and cardboards.
So (almost) everything that makes me happy!

Enxoval de bebe especial e único - Special and unique baby layette

Today, I will tell you a little about my awakening to the art of sewing.
It all began about a year ago, when I was still pregnant with Salvador.
Like any other mum to be, my eyes wandered through all the store windows with a mini mannequin on it.
I saw many cute things everywhere, but none of them conveyed the affection that my baby deserved, therefore I decided to buy some fabric and try to do something with it. The expectations were so low that I hardly could believe what my hands were capable of doing.
I have one word for this phenomenon: Willpower!
I really wanted my baby to have a special and unique layette!
From the diapers basket cover, to the car seat cover, it was just a matter of buying a sewing machine - the most basic there is.
The sewing helped me deal better with my anxiety and saved my pregnancy's insomnia.

I leave you with the pictures of my first experiences, and I look forward to hear your feedback and to share experiences.

Quadros personalisados - Personalised wall frames

One of my things, are the frames that I hang on our walls, I like them to be very "us" therefore I use a lot of photos (always under construction), quotes that somehow "speak for us" or even frames with natural materials like these
A limestone that I brought from my Honeymoon and a stone containing iron found in Minas de Tharsis, on a mini-break we did in southern Spain.

An easy way to keep our memories out of the drawers, and decorate our home, don't you think?

Dia incrível na Feira de Tricô e Costura - Incredible day in the Knitting and Stitching Show!

Ao Kicking show?
- Não, vou ao Knitting and Stitching show.
- A sério?! – Parecia surpreendido.
A minha mãe devia adorar ir lá.

Enfim, a feira!
Muiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiita gente! Demasiada gente!
Muiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitos stands! Nunca demasiados!

Take the lift; withdrawal some money in the nearest ATM machine , call a cab , go back home to pick up Salvador's lunchbox (forgotten on the kitchen table), install the car, place the chassis and the rest of the stuff in the  car trunk, and we were finally ready to go.
There was the typical taxi driver conversation, "where are we going?" -  Of course.
Then the normal: ''where are you from?''; ''have you been here long?''; 'what do you think of the Irish weather?" Bla bla bla , bla bla bla ...
And then, the less normal:
- You're going to what? Kicking show?
- No, to the Knitting and Stitching show.
- Really?! - Seemed surprised. - Does that exist? What will you be doing there?
I gave my best explanation, but there he was still stunned.
- You must be the youngest person at the fair, do you know that? My mother would love to go there.
Honesty, is a quality that I admire a lot , but I confess that I was chocked with the observations.
- Well, I think you could be surprised at the amount of young people, who are interested in knitting, sewing and other crafty things, nowadays.
 - Oh yes, I think I would be.
- Oh my!! You are really making fun of me, aren't you? - With an offended but still humorous face, I told him, I would do my best not to forget his face, to avoid taking his taxi, ever again.

We were finally able to find the pavilion where the Knitting and Stitching Show was being held, and as if that was not enough, he still said to me:
- You better start knitting already your sweater for Christmas, since it can take you about two months to finish it. - Can you believe this?!

Dear readers, if you are entering into this world, seemingly old fashioned, remember the number one challenge: convincing a taxi driver that what you do is significant and full of importance! - Well, I probably haven't been very successful on that...
It was just laughing.

Anyway, now about the Show!

Many peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeople! Too many!
Many staaaaaaaaaaaaaaaands! Never too much!

I traveled through each of the "avenues" eager for knowledge; most things were completely new to me. If I wouldn't have looked into Martha's Stewart Encyclopedia (mentioned here), the night before, I wouldn't know the purpose of many of those objects, especially those used to make Quilts.

The stands were almost all British, my favorites were the Tilda and Fabrics Galore , who despite being right near the entrance, unfortunately only discovered at the end of my shopping. Loved each of their fabrics, and in terms of price, it was indeed the best.
It was between hundreds of patterns and textures of fabrics, threads, wools and wide ranges of crafting papers and other decorations that I made my extremely difficult options.

Cannot wait to begin making my projects!

My final shopping basket
